Two years ago, I worked on a Flash McQueen project. But looking back, it had quite a few mistakes. I decided to do a remake, incorporating new elements.
The first was procedural cliffs and rocks built entirely in Houdini, with the goal of keeping all modeling within the software, no external input. Reproducing the layered strata patterns characteristic of the Grand Canyon was the main challenge on that front.
Next, I wanted to integrate foliage (sourced from Megascans) and scatter it procedurally using Unreal Engine's foliage tool, something I'm glad to have learned, as it will be genuinely useful in my career as an environment artist.
Finally, I wanted to create my own trees. The initial plan was to handle that in Houdini as well, but I found the toolset limiting, so I took the opportunity to learn SpeedTree.
I'm happy with the final result.
